Clever or Technical

Fri Jul 22, 2005, 3:57 AM
I've just been reading the Metal Gear Solid Volume One comic by Kris Oprisko and Ashley wood, a comic book Konami released to satisfy its huge fan base in the comic genre. The style is imperfect, randomn and often sketchy, but don't get me wrong, its beautiful and captures the movement and atmosphere perfectly, when they could have produced a detailed, marvel type appearance to it. This all basically got me into the idea that it is not how technical you are, though that counts to a certain extent, but how effective a style is in capturing something. An amazing comic book like this (compiling the first six issues into a volume of the game Twin Snakes, only 9 are out so far) compels me to be different and adventurous, to embrace mistakes and simplicity over flash techniques and anal geometry. A book like this changes you as an artist, please buy it now to experience the difference.
